“When the world gets to be too much
and you’ve become more awkward in it than you can even handle,
there is nothing like a comforting and nurturing space
to make you feel right at home again.”
Every 2 years our family would move from one home to another. With the constant change, I would find sanctuary in creating a haven out of the small bedroom I reluctantly shared with my twin brother. Although I made friends easily, I was a socially anxious and awkward kid. I found my solace from the inanimate objects around me more than the crowd I was trying to fit into.
My dad was a home builder that liked to share his designs and take me on home tours. My mom liked to drive my dad nuts with organizing every nook and cranny in the home, and my grandmother loved to take me treasure-hunting to thrift stores and estate sales. I’m pretty sure all those ingredients are what led to my home “design gene.”
I painfully admit, it took me more than one failed career to finally find it, but when I look back the clues were there all along. Focusing more on the paint work in the office than the meetings themselves, constantly moving furniture around, spending more time on eBay for decorative office decor than my actual work. It took one sudden day when renters ran out on my Aunt’s house that my passion for interiors became obvious to me. I took a leap of faith to fix up her rental and put it up as a vacation rental. It was a big success! From there I found myself creating several more rentals for myself and others, and utilizing my skills in home staging for buyers and sellers and residential homes. I’ve learned so much since, and I’m so excited to keep creating special spaces decorated in memorable pieces to the clients and friends I meet along this journey.
